Adapting the unadaptable? Cinema, Literature and Politics around Cien años de soledad
This round table discussion explores one of the most compelling themes in the ongoing dialogue between cinema and literature: the adaptation of complex literary works to the screen, and the cultural and political challenges underlying the narrative. The miniseries adapted from the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude attracted millions of viewers around the world and rekindled passion for García Márquez’s work. The event reflects on how the novel’s layered historical and sociopolitical narratives are reimagined and reframed for contemporary global audiences. Argentine director Alex García López recounts his experience of this adventure.
